DeWitt Darity is currently serving in the position of District 837 Secretary-Treasurer as of January 2, 2009. DeWitt began his career with the IAM after joining the union in 1987. DeWitt hired into McDonnell Douglas that year as a Mechanical Electrical Assembler. DeWitt transferred into inspection as a Mechanical-Electrical and Radio Inspector in 1989, later that same year he began his career serving this membership as a Union Steward.
DeWitt served the District in this capacity as a Shop Steward for over 12 years. In 2001 he was elected as a Plant Chairman for Boeing members and also participated in the 2001, 2004 and 2007 Boeing negotiations. DeWitt served from 2002 to 2009 as Lodge B President, participated in the GKN wage opener and the 2006 GKN negotiations. During his career, he has served the membership as Lodge B Vice-President and District Co-Chairperson of the Legislative Committee.
DeWitt graduated from North County High School (Desloge Mo.) in 1982. He Joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1983-1987 as an Electronics Countermeasures Mechanic for VMAQ-2 an EA-6B Prowler squadron. Throughout his career with the IAM DeWitt has continually taken the opportunity to further his education in order to better serve the membership. He completed his undergraduate Degree in Human Resources from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri in 1997.
In 2001 Darity completed Leadership I, Leadership II and Union Growth for Local Lodge Leaders in 2006, Advanced Leadership in 2007 and Train-the-Trainer in 2008 from the Winpisinger Training Center in Maryland and received a certificate of completion from the University of Missouri Labor Education Program for the Third Annual Arbitration Institute.
In April 2004 he received his Masters degree through the University of Phoenix, with the strong belief that the information he harnessed from these institutions of learning can and will enhance his ability towards providing fair representation for all the union members he is proud to serve.
DeWitt currently lives outside of Warrenton, Missouri with his wife and their two sons. His interests outside of the union include being the treasurer for the property owners where he lives, watching his sons play sports, weight lifting, hunting, fishing, golfing and of course spending quality time with his family.
