Machinists From Boeing To Hold Strike Authorization Vote

Machinists from The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers District 837, representing approximately 2,600 Boeing-St. Louis employees, will hold a Strike Authorization Vote at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at the St. Charles Family Arena located in St. Charles, MO.  The current contract is set to expire on June 13, 2010.

The Strike Authorization Vote is required by the IAM constitution in order to notify the International President and Executive Council that the District membership is ready and willing to strike in the event that the final contract proposal is not accepted by the membership. The vote is an important step in the negotiating process that began on April 12, 2010, when Union Negotiators began sub-committee meetings with Boeing Representatives. Main Table Negotiations are set to begin soon. A vote to accept or reject the proposal will be held on June 13, 2010.

“The membership has expressed great concern with Company proposals so far,” declared Gordon King, President Directing Business Representative for the Machinists employed at Boeing. “Our members have indicated they will not give up the hard won battles from past years. Seniority, Pension, and Job Security are among several issues currently being debated that the membership expects to move forward on, not backward. Boeing must understand that an injury to one District member is an injury to all!”

Local and national media organizations are invited to attend the May 2, 2010 Strike Authorization Vote; however, access to the Meeting Hall will be restricted until the vote is finished and results are verified. The District President will give a Press Conference once the results are announced to the membership in attendance.
