Strike Operating Procedure #1

Strike Captains

Strike Captains will be the Senior Watch Officer for all strike activities.

Strike Captains work directly for Mike Craig, DeWitt Darity, and Steve McDerman.

Strike Captains have agreed to work one twelve hour shift per week. Start times are 7AM & 7 PM each day.

Strike Captains Shift Schedules will be coordinated with Mike Craig. In the event that you cannot make your shift, Mike is your first point of contact. The back-up contact is TBD.

Strike Captains will oversee all activities that occur on District property during their shift.

Strike Captains will have a radio to communicate directly with Base and Security.

Strike Captains will ensure that buses are loaded and depart on time.

Strike Captains will interface with external news media until they are properly parked along the northeast drive and have been pointed to the Communicator or Security Agent located just inside the main entrance to the District offices.

Strike Captains will be responsible for resolving conflicts and making judgment calls for all non-standard issues that arise on their shift.

In the event that an issue occurs that cannot be resolved, the Strike Captain will contact a Business Agent as soon as possible for a clear answer.

The Strike Captain on watch will be notified of all Security alerts both on District property and at picket sites.

Strike Captains will notify Security for assistance with unruly or hostile situations.

Strike Captains will have control over IAM Strike Paychecks and control those checks in accordance with instructions from Jim Marshall. Strike Captains will be present when checks are sorted by the Sign-in Committee and will never leave checks unsecured. Strike Captains will ensure that Security is present during the hours of operation whereby members can receive their checks.

Strike Captains will be responsible for adjusting manpower to cover critical shortages during their watch. The order of priority for coverage shall be: Bus Drivers, Security, Communications, Sign-in, Parking, and then Picket Gate Coverage. Each of the Sub-Divisions will have built in their own back-up mechanisms; however, the Strike Captain is the fail-safe decision point for staffing.

Strike Captains will file a written report of any hostile activities that take place on District property and turn the report into Security before they leave their shift. The report will include the names of those involved and the circumstances surrounding the event to the best of their knowledge.

Strike Captains will ensure that our buses, Security, Emergency Vehicles, or news media uses the drive on the East side of the Hall and no other vehicles are parked there.

The Strike Captain for the 7AM shift will pick-up and review the previous days signed check-in sheets and deliver to the District Secretary-Treasurers Office.
