Dear GKN Brothers and Sisters,

I have contacted the Company about the results of Sunday’s vote to reject their contract offer and intent to strike.  The company has not agreed to go back to the bargaining table as of 5:00 p.m. January 12, 2009.  Currently, no meetings are scheduled.  If the Company does not notify the Union shortly of their intent to meet, we will exercise our right under Article 2, Section 3 of the contract by issuing a 7-day notice of intent to strike.

I want to make it perfectly clear as to why the 7-day letter has not been delivered at this time.  Brothers and Sisters, 7 days after I deliver the letter, you will be on the street.  It is in your benefit for the Company to return to the table without losing wages.  966 Members and their families’ livelihoods are on the line and I take your future welfare seriously.

But rest assured of this: If the Company does not agree to meet in the very near future, the letter will be delivered.  You said it loud and clear at Sunday’s vote:  You Are Prepared to Strike!  I ask each of you to be patient while the Company considers the request made to return to the table.  Keep in mind our primary goal is to negotiate the best contract for the membership.  Strike action takes place when this cannot be achieved.

We will provide you with new information as it becomes available.

Fraternally yours,
